WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL STRUGGLES IN FOUR GAME VICTORY
SANTA MARIA-- It was not an easy night, but the Allan Hancock College women's volleyball team held on to defeat Oxnard in four games, 30-12, 19-30, 30-26, 30-15, in a Western State Conference match-up.
Hancock (8-4, 2-0 WSC North) won handily in game one as Casey Rainwater (Florence, OR) dealt the Condors with 19 straight service points. A three point deficit of, 5-8, turned into a 24-12 lead, as the Bulldogs cruised to finish the game.
Things were quite different in game two as Oxnard won the first eight points, to earn a lead they would not surrender. In game three, Hancock took the lead for good at 20-19, again with Rainwater serving. Game four was close until Alyssa Giorgi (So., Coastal Christian) ran several service points and put the match out of reach.
Rainwater would end the night with four aces, with Geraldine Misa'alefua (So., American Samoa) and Giorgi adding five each. Misa'alefua scored 11 kills and four blocks. Giorgi had 10 kills to along with nine digs. Allison Patton (So., St. Joseph HS) had eight kills. Other leaders included Cassie Young (So., Arroyo Grande HS) with 12 digs, Cristina Saenz (So.,Santa Maria HS) with five blocks and Jessica Quandt (So., Valley Christian) scoring 27 assists.
The Bulldogs play two games next week. They will visit Moorpark on Tuesday, Oct.25 at 7:00 p.m. before returning home on Friday, Oct. 28 to host Ventura.
