WOMEN'S SOCCER EARNS 1-1 TIE WITH SANTA BARBARA
SANTA MARIA-- Coach Cherif Maghni's Allan Hancock College women's soccer team battled to a well-deserved 1-1 tie with visiting Santa Barbara City College today on the campus field.
For Hancock (0-14-2, 0-8-1 WSC North) the tie broke a 14-match losing streak and provided the Bulldogs with their first standings point of the WSC season. AHC opened the campaign with a 2-2 tie in a non-conference match against visiting West Hills College back on Sept. 1.
After Santa Barbara took a 1-0 lead into the half, the Bulldogs tied the score in the 59th minute on a penalty kick by Joelle Brackeen (Fr., Arroyo Grande). Joelle's sister, goalkeeper Allison Brackeen (Fr., Arroyo Grande), perserved the tie with outstanding play in front of the Bulldog net. Solid defense by Hancock back-liners Melissa Arevalos (So., Lompoc) and Erika Cisneros (Fr., Santa Maria) was another key to the final outcome.
The Bulldogs will attempt to capture that elusive first win of the season with road matches next week at Moorpark on Tuesday and Cuesta on Friday. The campaign closes out on Monday, Nov. 14 in a home match against L.A. Mission.
