BULLDOGS SHRED CITRUS IN MEN'S SOCCER, 5-1
SANTA MARIA-The Allan Hancock College men's soccer team scored early and often to defeat visiting Citrus College today, 5-1 at the campus field.
Hancock (5-4-2, 2-3-2 WSC) started early in dismantling the Owls, as freshman forward Crespin Guerrero (Santa Maria) headed in the game's first goal off a near-perfect pass from sophomore Memo Chavez (Santa Maria) in the seventh minute. The lead was extended to 2-0 in 26th minute as sophomore forward Omar Rueff (Santa Ynez) scored off an assisting pass from John Mooney (Atascadero). Just two minutes later, the Bulldogs ran the margin to 3-0 on a goal by Mark DeFerville (Fr., Santa Ynez), assisted by Rueff.
Citrus closed the gap with its lone goal of match just two minutes into the second half, but the contest was never in doubt. Hancock put the match out of reach on an unassisted goal by Chavez in the 62nd minute and added another in the 88th as Rueff scored again off a pass from Chris Bessemer (Merced Golden Valley).
Coach AlGarcia's Bulldogs will continued WSC play at Taft on Friday.
