John Wood Named as Next Men's Golf Coach
SANTA MARIA, Calif. - John Wood will take over as the head men's golf coach at Allan Hancock College this spring, replacing Rob Senior who served as at the helm in the interim role last season. Wood joined the Bulldogs as a volunteer assistant coach under Coach Senior during the 2025 campaign, who will be returning to solely serving as the head women's golf coach this fall.
"I'm excited about the opportunity to continue raising the bar for men's golf here at Allan Hancock. The golf program has continued to raise the bar in recent seasons, and I'm looking forward to building on those new budding traditions," Wood expressed. "I'm very thankful for Coach Senior and the leadership here at Hancock for their support and faith in my ability to lead the men's golf program. I embrace the student-athlete philosophy and look forward to developing these players both on and off the course."
Wood grew up in the talented golf-rich town of Stillwater, Oklahoma. The third-generation golfer received instruction from his dad and then from Legendary Oklahoma State University coaches Labron Harris and Mike Holder.
Wood served as a member of the Oklahoma State University golf team for two seasons in the early 80s before transferring to compete at Lipscomb University in Nashville. Along with his coaching and playing history, Wood brings a rich background filled with several years of student success coaching/advising, counseling, mental health services, and work as an adjunct professor.
