STRONG SECOND HALF PROPELS FOOTBALL TO VICTORY
SANTA MARIA-- The Allan Hancock College football team exploded for 35 second half points and won going away over L.A. Harbor, 56-35 in a Western State Conference Mountain Division game.
Hancock (5-2, 4-0 WSC Mtn.) scored the last four touchdowns of the game after falling behind 35-28 late in the third quarter. A 29-yard fumble recovery run for a TD with 4 seconds remaining in the third by Arikeem Desravnes, gave the Bulldogs their first lead of the game, one they would not surrender.
Playing catchup for most of three quarters, AHC fell behind 14-0 in the first. Each time the Bulldogs came close, the Seahawks answered back, but in the fourth, Harbor had no answer for the swarming Hancock defense that came alive in the second half.
Andre Cirino and Terrell Denson provided a one-two punch in the running game. Cirino, the leading rusher in the Western State Conference, ran the ball 28 times for 160 yards and two touchdown. He also went over the 1,000 yard mark on the season. Denson ran for 148 yards on 22 carries and two TDs. Fullback Jude Deras ran the ball for 25 yards on five carries, but two for for touchdowns.
Leading receiver Tyrell Munnerlyn was shutout in the first half, but took three passes from Casey Cathcart in the second, one a 41-yard TD reception with 22 seconds left in the third that tied the game.
The AHC defense struggled to stop Harbor in the first half, but came alive after the break, allowing a lone score, while the Bulldog offense rolled. Sam Guilliume led the defense with 13 tackles, nine solo, while William Roundtree and Isiah Anderson, playing his best game of the year, each added 10. Two of Anderson's tackles were sacks of Seahawk quarterback Andrew Trudnowski.
The Bulldogs travel to Santa Clarita for a big game against College of the Canyons on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 7:00 p.m.
