HANCOCK QUARTERBACK TRANSFERS TO DIVISION II PROGRAM
SANTA MARIA-- Earlier this week Allan Hancock College football's starting quarterback for the 2007 season Casey Cathcart signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Arkansas - Monticello.
The Boll Weevils compete in the Gulf South Conference which is a member of Division II. The conference last year had three teams, Valdosta State (1), Northern Alabama (6) and Delta State (10) finish ranked in the top 25 coaches poll. Valdosta State won the Division II National Championship in a rousing 25-20 victory over NW Missouri.
Cathcart will begin classes on Jan. 14 at the school which is located 100 miles southeast of Little Rock. A graduate of St. Joseph High in Santa Maria, Cathcart started all ten games for the Bulldogs in 2007.
He completed 57.9 % of his passes for 1398 yards. His average of 15.2 yards per completion ranked near the top of the Western State Conference. Cathcart threw 12 touchdowns and set a school record by throwing just two interceptions.
The Boll Weevils are led by third-year coach Gwaine Mathews. Cathcart will be under the tutelage of offensive coordinator Will Hall, a 2003 recipient of the Harlon Hill Trophy, the Division II equivalent of the Heisman Trophy.
UAM finished the 2007 season at 4-7, 3-5 in the Gulf South.
