SEVERAL FOOTBALL PLAYERS SIGN ON WITH FOUR-YEAR SCHOOLS
SANTA MARIA-- Head Football Coach Kris Dutra has announced that several players from his record breaking 2005 squad have signed letters of intent to continue their football careers.
Three Bulldogs have signed to play at NCAA Division I-A schools. All-Western State Conference first team tight end, Matt Simms (Lompoc HS) has signed on to play at the University of Utah, which plays in the Mountain West Conference. All-conference punter for two years in a row, Billy Vinnedge (Arroyo Grande HS) will kick at Wyoming also of the Mountain West. WSC second-teamer, defensive end Elisee Pompilus (Malden, MA) will roam the line of scrimmage for the Louisville Cardinals of the Big East Conference.
Jonathon Tuua (Fr., Long Beach, CA), named to the WSC first team, has signed with Idaho State, a Division 1-AA team which competes in the Big Sky Conference. Two Bulldogs will move to Division II school, St. Cloud State in Minnesota. Wide receiver Derek Sedin (Righetti HS) and free safety Lafe Viker (Righetti HS) will both play for the Huskies in the North Central Conference. Another pair will take off for a Division II university in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Running back Anthony Melton (Delano, CA) and linebacker Rick Aguilar (Lompoc HS), both WSC second-team players, are moving to Henderson State of the Gulf South Conference.
Linebacker Luke Deras (Righetti HS), who was named to the conference first team, has signed to play at Missouri Southern University in Joplin, Missouri. The Lions compete in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association at the Division II level. Another conference first team player, offensive lineman Chase Rivera (Arroyo Grande HS) will attend Concord University in Athens, West Virginia. The Mountain Lions compete in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Coach Dutra also announced that there will more signees in the near future. DB Donald White (Lompoc HS), place kicker Victor Velasco (Santa Maria HS) and offensive lineman Joe Parker (Bronx, NY) are among many Bulldogs who have received offers, but have yet decided where to go.
