TWELVE FOOTBALL PLAYERS EARN ALL-WSC NORTH RECOGNITION
SANTA MARIA-- The 2003 Allan Hancock College football team, which posted an 8-3 season record and earned an invitation to the Producers Dairy Bowl in Fresno, had 12 players receive recognItion on the All-Western State Conference North Division team.
Hancock posted an 8-3 season record and went 6-1 in conference games for a second-place finish in the WSC North. The lone conference loss was to divisional-champion College of the Canyons, which completed the regular season with a perfect 10-0 slate.
Selected to the first team offense was freshman tackle Eric Murchison (Santa Maria - Righetti HS), one of only three players on the squad to receive a unanimous vote of the WSC North coaches (joining quarterback Jason Beck and place-kicker Josh Cummings of Canyons). Also listed on the first team offense was sophomore kick-return specialist Eddie Scipio (Bethelem, PA-Bethlhem Catholic HS), who received recognition as the teams' all-purpose back as well.
Scipio added a third award on the team as a unanimous first team defensive selection at cornerback. Sophomore linebacker Chris Nunez (Santa Maria - St. Joseph HS) was also voted unanimously to the first team defense.
Bulldogs named to the second team offense included freshman tackle Luis Espinoza (Santa Maria - Santa Maria HS), sophomore tight end Brian Watje (Arroyo Grande - Arroyo Grande HS), sophomore wide receiver Brad Sorenson (Chico, CA - Pleasent Valley HS) and sophomore quarterback Chad Nicholson (Morro Bay - Morro Bay HS). Hancock did not have a selection to the second team defense.
Among AHC players earning honorable mention awards were sophomore runningback Lucious Sloan (Arlington, TX - J.W. Martin HS), freshman defensive tackle Soge Puaauli (Honolulu, HI - Farington HS), freshman linebacker Donnell Arrowsmith (Paso Robles - Paso Robles HS) and sophomore defensive back Greg Dutra (Arroyo Grande - Arroyo Grande HS).
