FOOTBALL TEAM DOMINATES L.A. PIERCE, 34-0
WOODLAND HILLS-- A punishing ground game and a stubborn defense were the hallmarks of Allan Hancock College's 34-0 Western State Conference Northern Division rout of L.A. Pierce on Saturday.
Hancock (5-2, 3-1 WSC Northern Division), ranked 11th in the COA Southern Region state poll, posted its third-consecutive win in dominating fashion. Michael Santos scored on a four-yard run at the beginning of the second period, capping a seven-play, 58-yard drive to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 lead.
Hancock's Brian Schneider kicked a season-long 44-yard field goal at the 9:33 mark of the second period, extend the lead to 17-0. With 2:33 to play in the half, Sorenson got behind the Brahma defense again, and hauled in a perfect strike from Nicholson for a 29-yard touchdown and put the game out of reach. After a failed fake punt in the final minute of the half, Schneider connected on a 38-yard field goal to give the Bulldogs a 27-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Hancock coaching staff substituted freely. Fullback Walter Burnette closed out the scoring on a two-yard dive at the 2:58 mark of the fourth quarter on a two-yard dive. Schneider's 10th point of the contest ran the score to 34-0. Dailey's efforts took Pierce to the Hancock one-yard line on the final possession of the game, but he was stopped at the goal line by Donnell Arrowsmith and Kris Elliott on the game's final play.
Santos led the AHC attack with 63 rusing yards on 10 carries, Paul Jordan added 45 on eight carries and Sloan finished with 42 on 14. Nicholson's two pass completions to Sorenson totalled 74 yards. The Hancock defense was paced by Chris Nunez with nine total tackles, five unassisted. Danny Brown and Trevor Shamblee each added seven stops. Brown had two quarterback sacks, Nunez had one. Cornerback Eddie Scipio added six unassisted tackles, while Michael Slaughter made five tackles, including three for losses and also recovered a fumble.
Hancock will celebrate its 2003 Homecoming next Saturday versus L.A. Valley College at Righetti High School's Warrior Field beginning at 7:00 p.m.
